Rebecca Macklin is rattled when she receives a phone call from the Dallas police informing her that her father and step-brother are about to be taken into custody by Social Services, and that her father's wife, Hanna Beth, is in a nursing home after suffering a stroke. She must put aside years of pain and return to her childhood home for the first time in decades. When Hanna Beth hears about the arrival of the step-daughter who has rejected every attempt at reconciliation, she knows something must be terribly wrong, but the stroke has left her unable to ask questions or offer information. It seems that the last person she would ever ask for help is the only one who can save her ailing husband, her 47-year-old retarded son--and Hanna Beth herself.
